How did my hammy die?
I woke up in the morning and my hamster Cookie kept moving her head left and right and falling over. I picked her up and she was lying on her side and not breathing properly. She started to breathe through her mouth and mucus was coming out of her nose. She stopped breathing and her hearbeat stopped and she went cold. We rushed her to the vet and he said Cookie died 
The vet wrapped her in paper. A few hours later we dug a hole in my garden and i got cookie and unwrapped her to say goodbye. She was stiff and cold. But her eyes were sort of closed but when we went to the vet she had her eyes wide open. I wrapped her in the paper again and put her in her house which i put in a shoebox along with her half eaten fruit/veg stick. We sealed the box and wrote a message on the top.
Was this a natural death or what?
She just turned 2 a couple of weeks ago :’(
You didn’t say how old she was, therefore I can’t decide wether it was natural and that your hamster died of old age, which many do as most don’t see the age of 3. Hamster can catch many illness’s, if your hamster was over the age of two, then you did well and she must of lived a great life.. And sadly died of old age. If anybody in your house hold had a cold and was handling her, hamster’s can catch these very easily too, which might explain the discharge coming from out of her nose and mouth.
Unless she had a wet bottom, and had diraheoa a few days before she passed away, then it wasn’t wet tail. I don’t think your hamster died in any pain at all.. It was most likely a natural death.
You did well in looking after your hamster, you seem a loving owner, I’m sorry for your loss, I know how it feels, my recent hamster passed away, it’s a horrible thing to go through.
